Turn a character idea into a cast member your audience can recognize, remember and believe in. Designed around the story. Built around its next performance.
Mimic Cartoon offers 3D character design and modeling services for stylized people, animals and creatures. We develop visual direction, proportions and expressions, then build the model, textures and materials for its intended use. You can bring an existing design or commission a new character. Rigging, animation and real-time preparation are scoped around the finished asset’s destination.
We translate personality, story role and audience into silhouette, proportions and color choices. Turnarounds and expression references help resolve the design across views, so it does not depend on one attractive front-facing image.
02 / THE CRAFT
3D modeling & topology
The model needs to hold its identity from every camera angle. We consider deformation areas around the face and joints, surface detail and the level of geometry appropriate to the intended animation or real-time use.
03 / THE CRAFT
Texturing, materials & grooming
Materials communicate what the character is made of. We develop surface color, roughness and details, with hair or fur where the design calls for them. Look-development reviews check the character under representative lighting.
Designed beyond the front view.Proportions and silhouette need to read as the camera moves around the character.
A USEFUL DISTINCTION
A finished character render is an image. An animation-ready character also needs suitable geometry and a working rig. A game-ready character has additional performance and engine requirements. We define these differences before estimating the asset.
CLEAR DECISIONS. BETTER PRODUCTION.
From the first conversation to the final handoff.
01
Define the character
Agree personality, audience, style references, usage and required views. Check existing brand guidelines or designs and clarify the rights to supplied references.
02
Resolve the design
Review silhouettes, proportions and expressions before committing to production detail. A turnaround helps align the front, side and back views.
03
Build & look develop
Create the 3D model and agreed surface treatment. Check shape, scale, material response and the areas that must deform during performance.
04
Prepare the asset
Package the agreed files, textures and presentation renders. Confirm whether rigging, animation tests or engine preparation are included in the next stage.

FROM THE WIDER STUDIO’S PORTFOLIO
Samsung Willow.
Mimic Productions contributed character creation, modeling, grooming, keyframe animation, look development and rendering to the Samsung campaign with Kingdom of Something.
The main cost drivers are design exploration, character complexity, clothing and accessories, hair or fur, facial requirements and delivery formats. An approved concept reduces some exploration, but it still needs interpretation in three dimensions. A cast may share a visual language while requiring different models and material work for each character.
YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
3D Character Design & Modeling FAQs
A few useful answers before your character’s first scene.
Q / 01
Can you turn our 2D character into a 3D model?
Yes. We review the supplied design and resolve missing views, proportions and material choices with you. A front image alone may not define the back, profile or how features should behave in three dimensions.
Q / 02
What is the difference between character design and modeling?
Character design establishes the visual personality and appearance. Modeling builds that design as three-dimensional geometry. A commission may include both, or start from an approved design supplied by your team.
Q / 03
Is rigging included in a character model?
It is included only when agreed in the scope. Modeling, rigging and animation are distinct stages. Tell us the required movements and facial expressions so we can plan an appropriate rig alongside the model.
Q / 04
Can a character work in both a film and a game?
Yes, if both uses are planned. Film and real-time versions may need different geometry, textures, grooming and rig setups. We agree the platform requirements and asset variants before production.
Q / 05
Do we receive editable source files?
Source-file delivery is agreed in the production brief and contract. Specify the software versions, texture formats and downstream users. Third-party dependencies and any restrictions should be documented with the handoff.
Q / 06
Can you match our existing brand style?
We can work from approved brand guidelines, reference characters and style rules. Reviews focus on recognizable shapes, color, materials and expression. The aim is a coherent original asset that fits your brand’s existing visual language.
